Two weeks, two personal bests.
KSP athlete Taylor Abbey, did his first 6-hour solo race 9/12 in San Angelo, TX. Abbey, who is preparing for a team effort at the 24 Hours of Moab, went head to head for 6.5 hours against Moab teammate, and seasoned Cat1 mountain biker, Greg Parham. After a grueling day in the saddle, only 2 minutes separated these two outstanding athletes. Abbey, who was thrilled with this latest challenge, had this to say: “Huge Thanks to my coach, Sara Krause. Without her pushing and stretching me in my riding, and encouraging me and building confidence in my mental game, I wouldn't have been able to push myself as hard as I did for 6.5 hours on the bike.”
A week later found Chris Lovin tackling the “Pain on the Plains” mountain bike race near Amarillo, TX. After a solid season as a Category 2 (sport) mountain bike racer last year, Lovin suffered a serious broken collar bone at the beginning of this year. He hired Sara to help him make a return to racing, and has done 3 on-road duathlons, is doing the fall mountain bike series, and preparing for a half-marathon in November. Chris posted a strong top 5 finish and set a personal best time.
Also attending Palo Duro was pro racer Scott Henry. Henry, who is currently preparing for the Chupacabras 100K in Juarez, Mexico later this year, went into the race with no taper. He reported back that he felt excellent on race day, posting a 2nd place finish, 3 seconds out of first.
Congratulations, and a job well done to all the KSP athletes!
